The CMG has a predoctoral research position available in the research team of cardiogenetics, focused on the identification and characterization of genes presumed to be involved in Brugada syndrome. Brugada syndrome is an inherited primary cardiac arrhythmia in structurally normal hearts, with a propensity to sudden cardiac death. Although many relevant discoveries have identified the functional mechanism of the syndrome, the underlying molecular and genetic pathways are far from being completely unravelled. Indeed, genetic defects have mainly been attributed to mutations in the sodium channel gene (SCN5A), though they account for only 20% of cases. Recent advances in next generation sequencing will allow us to identify additional genes coding for proteins involved in the pathophysiological substrate of Brugada syndrome. The mutational mechanism of action will be further investigated through functional in vitro expression and electrophysiological studies as well as genotype-phenotype correlation studies. Several techniques will be used for these aims such as PCR, real-time PCR, Sanger and next generation sequencing, microarray, cloning, confocal microscopy, electrophysiology, bioinformatics…
We are looking for a student with a Master in Sciences, Biomedical Science, or a Bio-engineer with an interest in bioinformatics. Experience in the field of molecular DNA technology is an advantage.
