Human embryonic stem cells

Which human embryonic stem cell lines are there in our lab?

Currently, we have derived 28 human embryonic stem cell lines in our lab, most of which have been fully characterized.

Seven of these lines are assumed to be normal, i.e. these lines were derived from regular IVF embryos and so, to our knowledge, they do not carry any genetic mutation causing a monogenic disease. Nevertheless, some of the lines and sublines carry chromosomal abnormalities.

The following table contains a list of the lines that are available for other research groups. All these lines are listed at the European Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry. Interested research groups can obtain these stem cell lines through a material transfer agreement. For more information, please contact Prof. Dr. K. Sermon.

Legend to table: IVF: in vitro fertilization, the embryos can be surplus cryopreserved (frozen) or non-cryopreserved (fresh). PGD: embryos diagnosed after preimplantation genetic diagnosis. The isolation of the inner cell mass for the derivation can be done either by immunosurgery (through a complement reaction) or by mechanically cutting out the cell mass.
